House Acts to Strengthen Cybersecurity, Protect Privacy

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement today applauding House passage of the Protecting Cyber Networks Act (H.R. 1560):

"I'm grateful to Chairman Nunes for introducing and shepherding this important piece of legislation through the Intelligence Committee. As cyber attacks from hackers and criminals grow more numerous and more costly to both citizens and businesses, the ability to share information about threats is more crucial than ever before. This bill will allow voluntary collaboration between the private sector and the federal government, and establish strong protections for civil liberties and privacy when it comes to Americans' personal information.

"This bill would not have been possible without the strong foundation built by former Chairman Mike Rogers, and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger, Mac Thornberry, and Jim Langevin. I'm proud of the leadership Devin and Ranking Member Adam Schiff have shown, and I look forward to helping them get this essential information-sharing legislation to the president's desk."
